Bio of Scott O'Hara

Scott O’Hara is a Net Zero and High Performance home builder in the East Bay Area.

Background and Expertise

Scott’s background and expertise include a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in real estate and land use from Sacramento State University. While in school, Scott also worked part-time as a carpenter. After graduation in 1993, he worked three years for a local contractor doing home renovations. Following that experience in home renovations, Scott transitioned into a general contractor in 1997 and started Scott O’Hara Construction. Subsequently, for the last 20 years he has been building and retrofitting homes in the East Bay Area.

BPI Certification & Awards

In 2008 Scott began studying and learning home performance. He achieved the goal of becoming BPI Certified. The following year, he co-founded Eco Performance Builders with his brother Keith. Eco Performance Builders is an award-winning building performance company specializing in full home analysis and energy retrofits. The company won the PG&E and Build it Green Home Performance Contractor of the year awards for the state of California.

Net Zero Construction

Over the last five years, Scott’s sole focus has been the construction of new single-family Net Zero and Net Zero-ready spec homes in Oakland and Martinez. These homes are specially designed and built for comfort and good indoor air quality.

The Family Man

Scott currently lives in Martinez and has just completed the re-building of a 1950’s ranch style house that will be a Net Zero home for he and his wife Linda to raise their children Sophie who is 9 and Liam who is 6. Scott is an avid outdoorsman who can regularly be found hiking the hills of Contra Costa County and beyond.

Experience as a General Contractor:

  • Licensed contractor for 21 years with classifications in A (general engineering), B (General Construction) and C-20 (HVAC).
  • 8 ground up spec house builds including 3 Net Zero and 2 additional high-performance homes.
  • 7 ground up custom home builds for clients including one Net Zero home.
  • Foundation and framing completed in house om a majority of the homes
  • Several additional flips that including extensive renovations.
  • Framed more than 30 additional large custom homes for general contractors and homeowners.
  • Most of the whole house projects above have been hillside constructions which has become a specialty.
  • Renovations and additions of all sizes have been completed since the founding of the company.
  • Development work has included road construction, water main installations and main line extensions on additional utilities.
  • Built it Green Certified Green Builder, Existing Home Rater and New Construction Rater
